Wow! Can you believe that it is September?????

Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner! Can you believe it?! Punkindoodle and BOO are SOOOO excited about the Halloween decorations that are popping up in the stores, I can't even tell you! My son (who is mostly non-verbal) wrapped himself in my yoga mat on Friday and told my husband that he wanted "up". He then proceeded to "chainsawintobat", translation "change into a bat" :). Hubby and I teared up at how cute he was flapping my yoga mat...

Well, I sincerely, sincerely apologize to those of you who were waiting for some exciting new items in this month's PFATT release. The construction crew is STILL not finished with my basement (err!) and all of my art supplies are buried in the mountain of Boo's therapy stuff in the garage. You know, it has been a wonderful summer, but there have been so many things going on with my son's health. To give you an idea, I spent two afternoons this last week seeing doctors. One afternoon in a meeting with the school nurse (we are trying an hour of school a day), and an hour and half waiting at the pharmacy for yet another Rx; Boo hasn't been able to sleep more than an hour or two a night lately. I'm afraid that all of it may be zapping my creativity a little too, as I have several pieces sitting in boxes in different stages. On top of it all, we have a meeting at the Children's Hospital at the end of this month. Several specialists and researchers will give us a final report on all of the testing that has been done in the last three months, and while I am taking it in stride, I think it is weighing on me more than I like to admit. So once again, please accept my apologies! I am very hopeful that things will get back on track and that my new studio space and Boo's new therapy room will be done very soon!

So the "up" side of all of this is that I have been getting out and running more! Mostly to escape that constant hammering and drilling in my house (err!) and to clear my head. As a result, crazy woman that I am, I signed up for Race for the Cure and the Colorado Wild Woman Duathlon! Wish me luck, I am a little nervous!

Well, as some of you know, we are remodeling our basement! I am very excited because the new space will act as a much needed, new therapy room for my son. Anyway, long story short, my studio was in the basement, and I have yet to find a relocation for all of my art things other than 5 large Rubbermaid containers sitting in the garage. So all of my completed pieces are wrapped up and in the living room, my paints and clay are in the garage, and I have several half finished pieces in my kitchen. My house is quite the sight as you can well imagine!

Anyway! What that means is I need to clear out some things in my home! Much to my dismay, the contractor informs me that my home will be in this flux for up to 8 more weeks! So, while i don't have anything new to showcase this month, I do have lots of pieces available at deep discounts!

All the entries seem to be in, so we don't have to wait until the 17th to make the annoucement!

Okay, so after much review, I decided to throw out question 11! SO Everyone got credit for it!

Danny Elfman did provide the vocals for Jack Skellington. You all were right :)! What I meant and should have written in my question is who did the "original" vocals for Oogie Boogie? Again the answer was Elfman. The character's song and vocals (at Burton's urging) were based on the jazz great, Cab Calloway. Ken Page, as you all know, did the vocals in the final cut, but Elfman did the originals. Sorry guys, my error! Anyway, here are the answers!

Pfreaky PFATT Release and New Giveaway to begin on June 10th

Greetings from high in the Rocky Mountains! The kids and I have escaped the city in search of some very much needed R&R! As I post, I am glancing out the window at the majestic Continental Divide. Gosh, it is breathtaking! I love that all of this is only an hour's drive outside the city :).

Just a quick reminder that Pfreaky PFATT will be released on June 10th sometime between 10 pm and midnight, PST. Be sure to check it out, the PFATT crew is all "abuzz" about their offerings this month! I think it will prove to be a very exciting edition! There is even some cool door prizes being given away. SO I wanted to wait to share this with you because I just had so much fun doing it... My good friend Anna commissioned a piece for her Mom for Mother's Day. I didn't want to spoil the surprise, so I wanted to wait until her Mom knew about her surprise before I posted it :). Anna's Mom is a school nurse, more specifically, a very patient middle school nurse. Anna came up with a great idea for her Mother's desk at school, hopefully, this will motivate some particularly whiny students to get back to their studies ;). The base says "Get back to class!". Wonderful idea Anna, I had so much fun making her.

So just what is a Pooka you ask????

A new ornament challenge is coming up for the HA31 group, "Challenge Pooka". Since the only thing I know about Pookas is from an old Jimmy Stewart movie, I found some info on the web...

This one sounds like fun :)!!! Be sure to check out the cool offerings on EBAY May 16th-18th.

No fairy is more feared in Ireland than the pooka. This may be because it is always out and about after nightfall, creating harm and mischief, and because it can assume a variety of terrifying forms.
The guise in which it most often appears, however, is that of a sleek, dark horse with sulphurous yellow eyes and a long wild mane. In this form, it roams large areas of countryside at night, tearing down fences and gates, scattering livestock in terror, trampling crops and generally doing damage around remote farms.

In remote areas of County Down, the pooka becomes a small, deformed goblin who demands a share of the crop at the end of the harvest: for this reason several strands, known as the 'pooka's share', are left behind by the reapers. In parts of County Laois, the pooka becomes a huge, hairy bogeyman who terrifies those abroad at night; in Waterford and Wexford, it appears as an eagle with a massive wingspan; and in Roscommon, as a black goat with curling horns.

The mere sight of it may prevent hens laying their eggs or cows giving milk, and it is the curse of all late night travellers as it is known to swoop them up on to its back and then throw them into muddy ditches or bogholes. The pooka has the power of human speech, and it has been known to stop in front of certain houses and call out the names of those it wants to take upon its midnight dashes. If that person refuses, the pooka will vandalise their property because it is a very vindictive fairy.

Punkin' Doodle and Boo

I often get the question, How did you come up with the name Punkin' Doodle Boo? So for those of you who don't know where my funny little name Punkin' Doodle Boo came from... I am very pleased to introduce you to my beautiful Punkin Doodle and my handsome Boo!

"Punkin Doodle" is the nickname, my now very slender daughter, was appropriately christened with as an infant. She was a chunker! We had to clean in between the rolls of baby fat with Qtips, LOL :). Boo is a nickname, given to my son, on the day he was born, because of his big beautiful eyes, long eyelashes and tiny nose. He was very startled to be out of the womb! I was in labor, at the hospital for 2 1/2 days when they finally went it to get him!

Anyway, I took this picture of my babies yesterday, but they aren't my babies anymore... Boo will be 9 in a few short days and Punkin Doodle will be 7 shortly after.

New UHAT Challenge coming up!

I have been sculpting and painting like crazy these last couple of weeks. I have been trying to to get ready for my PFATT debut. I got a little behind last week because my sweet Punkin Doodle had influenza! Poor kid, had to be during her Spring Break too! I have to say, she was a total trooper though, not one complaint :o). However, as a result, I can now recite and sing every song from both High School Musical 1 and 2! Can I get a 'FAB-U-LOUS sooo FAB-U-LOUS'? HEE HEE!

PunkinDoodleBoo Updates

As many of you know, EBAY is cuurently instituting some policy and fee changes. Some will be effective this month and others will be implemented in May. As a result, many sellers are boycotting Ebay from February 18th to the 25th. As a matter of principle, and to fully support those who will be most affected, I have decided to abide by the strike. Call it the liberal in me :) (sorry Daddy!). Currently, I am very pleased with my experiences on Ebay. I have been selling my wares on Ebay on and off since 1999 and I, like many artists I know, have decided to take it all as it comes and hope everything will work out to a satisfactory conclusion. Okay, so next to Halloween, St. Patrick's Day is my favorite holiday! Some people are big Christmas junkies. My mother in law used to put up (no lie) 7 Christmas trees. She starts decorating feverishly in September I think. Not me, I am just not that committed I guess... Of course, I am an Irish girl through and through, and any holiday that involves U2 and warm Guinness, well I am all over that holiday!

So, long story short, I thought to myself why not combine my two favorite holidays :)!

The talented group of HA31 and UHAT are promoting a new holiday event:)! I have been sketching like crazy and I was thinking about scanning in those drawings, BUT rather than spoil the surprise, I will just leave you with a teaser!

I am so excited, I just love new challenges! Especially DARK ones! Speaking of DARK...

I also wanted to give everyone a heads up about the new MRSBO challenge coming up in MAY! Dark themed Circus Orphans.... doesn't that sound like fun! I can't wait to see what our talented group of artist come up with!

Oh my goodness! Time seems to be passing at a incredible clip! It seems like it was just Christmas time and here it is already February 7th... Anyway, I am almost finished with a very cool skelly and you know how much I love skellys :)! He has a St. Paddy's Day theme as you can see, complete with shamrocks and a shillealegh. I think I am going to have hime holding green carnations as well! He should be complete and ready for listing on ebay this weekend. Keep and eye out!

HA31 and UHAT, both Ebay artist groups are sponsoring an EASTERWEEN theme. Listing, I believe, has been scheduled for March 1st. I have lots of spooky, ghoulish ideas rolling around in my head! I just love dark themes, they are so much fun! I can't wait to post some of my new ideas!

Finally, MRSBO, my very talented and fun group of doll artisan friends, is planning a new theme for May. Stay tuned for what promises to be a delicious art challenge.

I have just finished some New Valentine's ACEOs to be posted this week on EBAY! Here is a sneek peek from the set of 4!

My 2 new bunnies will be posted this week as well! They are completed and probably go up this evening. I have decide to put them both on EBAY.

I am still working on my new cupid as well! He will have lots of fun details... I hope to have him done by the close of the week.

My MRSBO Raggedy is done and just awaiting her hair! I will then be writing a story about her as part of the challenge. All of those dolls from the MRSBO Challenge will be posted on January 31st on EBAY!!! Just do a search for MRSBO on the 31st!

Finally! A new HA31 UHAT Challenge is in the works! The due date is March 1st. We will be doing an "Easterween" challenge!

SO Sorry for the brief hiatus! Lots going on in my household the last few weeks!

I have been hold up the last two days in my studio! I have been so busy the last few days creating! I have two new "Chocolate Bunnies" that will be posted this week. They are similar in design, but have different faces and Easter Egg designs. I will be posting one on ETSY and the other on EBAY this week! They will be sitting jointed nodders and lots of fun!

My MRSBO Raggedy Ann Challenge piece is just about done. I painted her quite a bit today and she is going to be wicked cute! For those of you who love really unique pieces this is most definitely it! She will be listed on EBAY January 31st.

Finally, I have a wonderful Valentine's Day piece in the works. I have spent a lot of time developing this piece and he is drying as we speak. I anticipate that he will be ready for sanding tomorrow. This sculpture is FULL of PunkinDoodleBoo whimsy with his big feet, droopy diaper and the most delightful smile. I will be posting him this weekend on EBAY!

Many years ago there was a an author and psychologist named Heinrich Hoffmann. He wrote short stories about naughty children. His most famous is Stuwwelpeter. It's about a disgusting boy who never cut his hair or fingernails. He wrote several othre stories like Stuwwelpeter.

All members have attempted to conjure up a doll to be sold for charity, but there is something very odd about every one of them! Challenge: Create your very own prestidigitator for your story. Who is he/she? How will their background influence their dolly? Say if your prestidigitator is a retired naval officer, will his doll be half squid and half little girl? Or did your prestidigitator use some unusual ingredient in his magic? Everybody puts a little bit of themselves into their magic, right?

Here is my "Feeble Pretidigitagator"! Love that mole!! My gentleman is an evil magician, fresh from a long stage show in New Orleans where he studied the dark arts and voodoo. The doll he conjures will be very interesting indeed :). Here is a little sneak peek of what she looks like so far!

Jack Frost nipping at your nose...

Is Jack Frost nipping at your nose? As I write, it is beginning to snow, AGAIN! We had a very quiet and peaceful White Christmas this year... We got about 6 or 7 inches on Christmas Day, it was beautiful. I think the weatherman said that we had only had 13 actual White Christmases in over 116 years. Anyway, something like that! Here is my entry for hte HA31 winter icon challenge. I had a tough time deciding between my Snow Queen or Jack Frost, but in the end, when both pieces were finished, this was an easy choice. I think I am in a crazy eye's period :)!

He is has jointed arms and legs. He is a shelf sitter with lots of movement and his head sits atop a spring! Lots of different shades of metallic blue!

As I write this, it is the afternoon of New Year's Eve. 2007 is just about at a close! Can you believe it?! A lot went on this year!

As you can see :), I just started blogging! My website is up and running again, http://www.punkindoodleboofolkart.com/! I am doing well on e-bay, and I added some new clients. I just started selling on Etsy in December and I was a featured artist on HalloweenArtists.com in the month of November! To the left is the entry that was chosen :).

2007 was wonderful for me and I am truly excited about 2008! I have three new projects in the works that are all the result of new challenges I have taken on. I have recently joined two new Artists Groups through ebay, PWGL~Prim and Whimsy Girls AND MRSBO~Mrs. Blathersby's Orphange. The later is a group of artisans who have challenged themselves to think outside the proverbial doll makers box! I can't wait for you all to see some of the new things I have been "cookin'up"!

I also have continued my membership to HA31~Halloween Artists... This group is so dear to me! Day, our fearless leader, and respected artist in her own right, launched a new site on October 31st of 2007, http://www.halloweenartists.com/. I am very proud to belong to such talented group. Currently, I am contributing to http://www.halloweenartists.com/ both as a member artist and column writer. Please drop by this very exciting new site!

January Challenges for HA 31 (deadline 2nd week of January)~ "Winter Icons" I am currently working on two pieces for this challenge. A Snow Queen nodder (pictured) and a Jack Frost, jointed, shelf sitting nodder (pictured).

January Challenges for MRSBO (Deadline January 31st)~ "Official MRSBO Raggedy Challenge". I am working on a piece that I am very excited about. This piece draws on some work and sketching I did about 8 years ago (see below). I have started to think a little "retro" in my work by revisting my old portfolios and sketch pads.

Also, as some of you may know, HA31 did a very successful set of ebay auctions during the first week of December around Krampus! For those of you who don't know who Krampus is, he is the Anti Santa :) READ BELOW~copied from allaboutkrampus.com!

Everyone knows that Santa keeps lists of good and bad children. If you are good you get a visit from Santa and he leaves toys. But in turn -of-the-century Europe, if you were bad you got a visit from KRAMPUS! Originating in Germany and the Teutonic countries, KRAMPUS acted as Santa's servant. As time passed KRAMPUS developed a rather malicious disposition and became almost an Anti-Santa. While jolly St. Nick delivered gifts to the good, KRAMPUS gave coal and rocks to the naughty, beat the bad with switches, and if a child was especially naughty, he would shackle them in chains, stuff them in a bucket and throw them into the fiery pits of hell! Beginning in the 1880's KRAMPUS appeared on cards that were sent on the Eve Of St. Nick and was depicted as a black dwarf dressed in a fur vest, Moorish clothes and a devil mask or horns. As time passed his feet were replaced with claws or hooves (sometimes one of each) and his body itself became covered in fur and he wore little or no clothing. Sometimes a common "devil" type tail is also added. Eventually his tongue became obscenely long as did his horns. On some occasions cards were sent not with a picture of KRAMPUS but with a simple picture of his switch or chains and the phrase "Gruss Vom Krampus!" (Greetings From Krampus) or "Brav Sein!" (Be Good). By the time of the 1960's KRAMPUS became more associated with adults and sex (much like a St. Valentine's Day devil) and postcards of that time often portray him leering at, and sometimes carrying away, nubile young women.

Anyway, I had so much fun with this (see pic) I am doing a couple more pieces for St. Valentine's Day and I have a couple ideas for "cupid" in the sketching stage! Stay TUNED!
